D-BOX getting lagged

Hi!

I have one very strange problem – from time to time (and sometimes even after I start my computer) the platform becomes very slow to move, like very lagged.

I accelerate in a game, and it takes it 2-3 seconds to do the front-rear motion, and the motion itself is very slow. I brake and it’s delayed again, moves like a snail basically.

It takes to restart either a computer or d-box to get back to normal. Extremely annoying given those iRacing load times. The problem happens in all racing games, absolutely randomly. Restart the game a few times and the platform gets slow.

The D-BOX control panel shows all connections in green, there are no error messages anywhere.

Any tips are appreciated!

Nick

Hi Nick,

This bug have been present a long time. I only use iRacing, but I have noticed this behaviour at least 2 years. I asumed that the bug was caused by iRacing, but if you notice that in other sims too, then it must be D-Box.

I really hope that D-Box would check this.

There is also really annoying bug in pitch movement. If you don’t use Gear shift effect then the pitch movement is way too slow and to find good Gear shift effect value is just by trial and error.
Though, this does not effect all cars in iRacing.

You can fix the lag problem by first closing D-Box Motion Code UI and then closing D-Box Motion Enabler. Then restart the D-Box Motion Code UI and select Enable Automatic Start with Game then hit the Save All button. This usually fix the lag issue.
You don’t need to exit the sim to do this.

Hope this helps.

Hey Guys!

Thank you for reaching out to us directly!

I have been in contact with our motion engineers and they do not seem to have been aware of such a bug in the past. Here is what they had to say could be causing an issue of the top of their heads:

  • Is your CPU load really high? If so it could cause the motion to lag because your PC can’t process the data fast enough.
  • Try launching everything as administrator, it might help.

Other than that, my only other suggestion as of now would be to contact our support at "support@d-box.com"

I will also come back here to update you guys if we get any other similar reports!

Hi Marc-Antoine,
Thanks for noticing this.
I reported this about 1 1/2 years ago and got answer that this is known issue (in iRacing).

It’s not caused by high CPU load, I have 12900K @ 5.2 Ghz and the issue is same as in my old 6700K.
I also have set Motion enabler to High priority, but it did not help.

Also tried to launch as Administrator, no difference.

I really hope that this would be fixed, for this price we should not have this issue.

Japo, thanks for the tip with restarting the Motion Enabler, saves lots of time.

I’ve been trying to find a pattern (unsuccessfully), however this problem only happens with iRacing and Automobilista 2, not all games as I mentioned.

Hope DBOX fixes this.

Some of my friends have had the same issue, I hope we can find a solution

Here is something that might help the lag issue in iRacing

In the app.ini file, change this value from 1 to 0 -> resetWhenFFBLost=0
You can find app.ini in:
C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\iRacing

Update iRacing D-Box motion code to latest (4.1.11094)

No lag issue since, but this could be coincident though.

Nope, the lag issue is back.
Marc-Antoine, can you get lag issue fix forward ? It’s really annoying.

There are two different type of lag issues.

  1. Lag is really noticeable and movement is really slow
  2. Motion works somewhat normally but it’s more muted than normally. This is actually more annoying because you don’t necessarily notice it right away.

Marc-Antoine, if you need logs or more info I will gladly help. This issue really needs to get sorted.

@nick.ustinov and @japo… Can you guys list the programs that you have installed on your computers, what version of windows and what other devices and hardware you have. (that you feel comfortable posting). There could be a similarity or something that you both have that’s causing this issue. I don’t think this is a processor issue and Windows OS is a non-deterministic system, meaning it can be compromised or schedule different programs in the processing queue.

Would be great to post some logs here when the event happens again. Just the admin logs and review.

Thanks guys!

I am shopping for a motion system. I would like to buy a motion system, but can you guarantee that I will not have the same problems?

I understand your system is a few years old. How many? What controller are you using? KAI4P box or KAI1 P dongle? Report to D-Box what version if windows and what version if gane center and iracing you are using.

There was a noticeable lag from older versions of the KAI delivery process when PC gets updated beyond win 8. If you have an old KAI4P box you need get a KAI1p.
If not 100% of users are experiencing the same lag, then it has to be a combination of those things in your particular system. Keep isolating by swaps if you can till it is discovered.

I’ve a gen1 dbox 4 actuator motion system on my sim racing rig.

I’ve never experienced any slowdown in motion as reported here. It’s been perfect since the day I got it.

My system uses the usb dongle controller.

@carter.beswick and @ken.knapp
Here is my list:
Windows: Win11 Pro 21H2 with latest updates

Simcommander: Latest version
GS-5
G-Belt
Rear Traction Loss Actuator
4 Shakers

Sim Racing Studio: Latest version
Sim Wind

D-Box
Game Center: 11
iRacing motion code: 4.4.1124

Heusinkveld Ultimate pedals,

SimuCube 2 wheel

Pimax 8KX VR, using SteamVR

D-Box: Gen2 i3250 from 2018
Controller Box: KCU-1P

I doubt that this is hardware or software conflict (I hope I’m wrong).
This lag issue started in 2020 and I had most of the hardware in my rig before.

In 2020 I got direct answer from D-Box that this is know issue in iRacing. That the iRacing plugin has strange behavior and sometimes it works perfectly, sometime it shutdown the motion, sometimes the telemetry is different. Disabling and restarting Motion Enabler is the only solution for now.

I don’t want to go into more detail, because this was from private E-Mail and the guy was really helpful.

But, the issue has been around too long and I’m really surprised that this was D-Box answer:

If the problem is in iRacing end, please contact them and sort this out.

I understand that this i probably a really difficult bug to find (does not effect all users), but like I said before, for this money we should not have this bug for 2 years.

One thing I have noticed (could be coincident) that in Road Atlanta it seems to happen more often.

I’m going to test this like Ken suggested, but it’s difficult to because the bug is so random.

I have had professional racing drivers in my rig (for practice and testing) and it’s embarrassing to explain this and restarting Motion Enabler (sometimes many times) to get motion to work.
